‘Marie NDiaye’

Meet the writer

The French-Senegalese writer Marie NDiaye is one of the leading lights in French literature. She is familiar to the general public as winner of the Prix Goncourt for her novel Trois femmes puissantes, the gripping portrait of three women whose lives are split between Africa and Europe. NDiaye has published more than 20 titles. In her quiet, extremely sensitive style she writes modern fables full of melancholy and mystery. They are sometimes about the fate of migrants in the West, sometimes about the spirituality of cooks, as in her latest novel La Cheffe, roman d'une cuisinière. She is not afraid to tackle the obscure psychology of political life as a theme, as in her recent play Honneur à notre élue.

At BOZAR, NDiaye will be sitting down with the Belgian writer Grégoire Polet to discuss 30 years of writing.

On 5 and 6 May, Marie NDiaye will also be present at the first edition of the international literature festival BruTaal in Bruges (BE), together with other francophone writers as Boualem Sansal, Christophe Boltanski and Philippe Claudel.
