‘Lullaby to my Father - Amos Gitai’

- 16:00

OPENING cycle 'Architecture on Film' (in the presence of Amos Gitai)

Amos Gitai tells the story of his father Munio Weinraub, a student at the famous Bauhaus school of architecture and design in Dessau-Roßlau, Germany. It was there that Munio met such leading lights in the modernist art and architecture movement as Walter Gropius, Vassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. The school was closed by the Nazis in 1933. Accused of treason against the German people, Munio was first imprisoned and then deported to Switzerland. His journey ended in Palestine where, inspired by the principles of European modernism, he embarked on a brilliant career as an architect. In this film, Gitai says he observes “the way architecture represents changes in society.” Intertwining historical facts and intimate memories, Lullaby to my Father is above all the story of a journey and a son’s quest to retrace the path of his father.
