ZONZO COMPAGNIE (BE)

World premiere / 5+

The worst thing ever has happened. A baby was bitten by a tarantula only to die in its mother’s arms. Elan saw it happen and it was the saddest thing she had ever seen. That night, she just couldn’t sleep. So she crawled out of bed to find her journal… “Why? Where? For how long?”, she wrote. She just had to know! “When someone leaves us, where do they go? Why are we here? How long does it take before people forget us? Will we return one day?”. Elan thought that if anyone could answer her questions it surely would have to be someone who had lived on Earth for many years, for a very long time even. She packed her backpack, found her recorder and set off. She had no intention of returning any time soon.

Drawing on Elan’s story, Zonzo Compagnie has given almost 200 performances across Europe. The BIG BANG festival presents the second highly anticipated part of her story, which will premiere at the festival. Jan Van Outryve has once again selected some exceptional songs from the bountiful archives of the ethno-musicologist Alan Lomax. With the singer Aline Goffin, he breathes new life into these musical treasures from across the world. An animated film created by the young and talented Portuguese animator Beatriz Bagulho is projected as a backdrop. Accompanied by nothing more than a voice, a ukulele and a lute, Aline and Jan succeed in enthralling their audience during this simple, genuine and moving concert. For children aged 5 and over.
