‘Libia, ultimo esodo - Ruggero Gabbai’

“Libya, the last exodus” tells the tale of what was once the flourishing Jewish community of Libya and its capital Tripoli. Starting out from Italian colonisation and relating the subsequent domination by different foreign powers, the film describes the life of Libyan Jews before they dispersed; a life lived alongside the Arab population, in a coexistence that wasn’t without its difficulties. It is in fact a very Italian history which belongs to our collective memory, evoked here by direct accounts and previously unseen archive footage from the Istituto Luce.
