‘La France est notre patrie - Rithy Panh’

Rithy Panh, chronicler of the Khmer Rouge genocide and interviewer of Dutch, the slaughterer, now presents a quite different type of documentary, a work of pure editing, a mosaic of archive footage from the first half of the twentieth century, meant as « a visual meditation on French Indochina ». The film maker presents a history of the colonization and confronts two different cultures and two different sensibilities. Music is given a very prominent role to express the pain, anxiety and bewilderment which are difficult to put into words. With this historical look at Indochina, Rithy Panh offers the viewer a more profound understanding of the present.
