In the context of the Korean Music Festival Brussels
Kun Woo Paik presents a programme of Russian Romantic music. Switch off your intellect and immerse yourself in its magnificent phrasing and passionate chords – present in profusion in, for example, Rakhmaninov's First Piano Sonata. Rakhmaninov drew his inspiration from Goethe's Faust and each of the sonata's movements focuses on a key figure in Goethe's work: Faust, Gretchen, and Mephistopheles. Skryabin's dreamlike preludes are also teeming with moving melodies. They were written as a tribute to Chopin, who had a major influence on Skryabin's work.
