Concert Croissant #13
On paper, it looks like an experimental cocktail, but in reality the mix of baroque and world music is as refreshing as it is surprising. The Korabaroꓘ project arose from classical-trained singer Céline Scheen's desire to perform with a kora. However, the West African stringed instrument is not found in the music of Mozart, Gluck or Monteverdi. Yet the musical tension between Céline Scheen and kora player Mamadou Dramé sparks well beyond the stage. To form a trio, musician-arranger Karim Baggili was also invited to play guitar. Both Mamadou and Karim bring some self-written compositions, in addition to their years of experience, which dialogue with Céline's aria songs. Dowland with kora accompaniment or Monteverdi with Spanish guitar? Let's hear it!
