‘Keep on dancing with Anna Halprin!’

Belgium’s dance film festival, L’art difficile de filmer la danse, will open this year with a tribute to American dancer, choreographer and teacher Anna Halprin, who recently died at the age of 100. Film screenings, a conference and a dance event will focus on Halprin’s stunning work, which revolutionised the history of dance and inspired several generations. “Everyone can dance,” she repeatedly proclaimed throughout her career. Halprin’s dance experimentations broke down the barriers between the public and the stage, renewed the bonds of dance with a collective consciousness and the environment, and restored the physical, social and spiritual healing potential of dance. The evening’s hybrid event will retrace Halprin’s career through numerous excerpts from film archives (published by Contredanse) and will offer the audience an opportunity to explore dance with Sandra Vincent.
