‘Jonathan Franzen’

18 Oct.'15
- 20:00

An encounter with the writer of 'The Corrections' and 'Freedom'

The world-famous American author Jonathan Franzen is back in Belgium for the first time in years. He is here on the occasion of the publication of his long-awaited novel Purity, which comes out on 1 September. Following the global success of The Corrections and Freedom, Purity is a fresh step in his already classic oeuvre. The novel tells the tale of Pip – Purity - Tyler, who doesn’t know who she is and goes in search of her true identity. This takes her on a journey via Californian anarchists and East-German peace activists to a strange organisation in South-America, which charts all the secrets of the world; including hers. It is a spectacular tale of youthful idealism, loyalty and murder.

The Flemish author Saskia De Coster opens the evening with a tribute to her American colleague. The talk with Franzen will be moderated by writer and journalist Annelies Beck. The author will be signing his latest book afterwards. The evening is the highlight of the KultuurKaffee@Bozar Festival.
