‘Janine Jansen & Alexander Gavrylyuk’

The violin is without doubt one of the most romantic instruments there is, and there is no programme in which the instrument comes into its own as well as it does in that of Janine Jansen and Alexander Gavrylyuk.
The pair perform the very best of romantic music by Schumann (both Robert and Clara), Brahms and Franck. The three sonatas are more or less the best known and loved works for violin and piano of the 19th century.
If Schumann’s enthusiastic First Sonata is all sturm und drang, than the restrained tenderness of Brahms’ Second Violin Sonata is without a doubt a direct consequence of the blissful holiday atmosphere during which the composer wrote the work. Franck’s sumptuous sonata proved to be a suitable wedding gift for Belgium’s most legendary violinist, Eugène Ysaÿe.
