The young French director Damien Faure already has some 15 films to his credit plus an impressive collection of awards. With Intercalary Spaces he invites us to plunge as never before into the city of Tokyo, concentrating on its spaces, these intercalary spaces in which the identity of this Japanese metropolis and its inhabitants is to be found.   As this remarkable documentary shows, the most banal intercalary space is ultimately meaningful, and in Tokyo particularly so. With his camera and crossed perspectives,   Damien Faure succeeds in giving a voice to the city and capturing its uniqueness with great intelligence.
