Small and Big Stories
Bozar mounts an emergency exhibition on contemporary art from Ukraine, once one of the centres of early avant-garde, now a vital art scene.
The exhibition is one of three. The second one is at M HKA in Antwerp, which built the Ukrainian art collection of the Flemish Community that provides the basis for the entire project. The third exhibition is at the European Parliament. The project takes place in collaboration with the European Parliament and in partnership with the Office of the President of Ukraine. It was initiated by M HKA and PinchukArtCentre and is made possible by the Flemish Community.
The works exhibited at Bozar investigate the tension between big narratives and the anecdotal reality of everyday life. Small and Big Stories shows the clash between military, political and religious power and the individual minds and bodies of the artists. Fragility meets brute force, as the artists protest, process, reclaim and resist in a world of past trauma and present turmoil.
With works by: Sergey Bratkov, Nikita Kadan, Alevtina Kakhidze, Lesya Khomenko, Oxana Shachko and Anna Zvyagintseva.
The basic image of the project is by Nikolay Karabinovych
