The Anonymous Revealed
Much medieval and Renaissance music has, sadly, been handed down anonymously, although there is of course a fascinating musical personality behind each anonymous person. Unfortunately, printers were not always careful to include a composer's name, so many compositions remain stuck in libraries. A pity, because the often high, unique and surprising quality of these works, could just as well have been by, say, Brumel, Josquin or Lassus. In the acoustics of the cathedral, be moved by some unknown masses, chansons, frottolas, motets and madrigals floating in a haze of unknown perfume.
