‘Harry Gruyaert. Photographer – Gerrit Messiaen’

6 Dec.'18
- 12:30

This is the story of the 75-year-old Magnum photographer Harry Gruyaert whose life was saved by colour. Harry grew up in a strict Catholic family in Flanders. His father, who worked for Agfa Gevaert, forbade him from becoming a photographer that he regarded as a sinful occupation. So Harry decided to leave home and travel. No longer stifled by his grey, oppressive background he suddenly discovered a world of light and colour. Driven by a love-hate relationship and the irresistible desire to be a photographer, Harry Gruyaert became a European pioneer of colour photography.
