You have pianists, and you have Grigory Sokolov. The Russian maestro is a living legend and a familiar face at the Centre for Fine Arts. The pianist is famous for his crystalline articulation and refined, gentle touch with which he lends lyrical passages a power of expression that does not leave a single listener unmoved. In Frédéric Chopin's Mazurkas - more specifically the two collections with opus numbers 30 and 50 - he seeks the playfulness of Polish folk dances, after which the short tone paintings of Robert Schumann's Waldszenen (forest scenes) bring out the pure romantic in Sokolov. Add Sokolov’s charismatic presence, and you are in for an unforgettable experience.
