Belgian National Orchestra & Dirk Brossé
An exceptional screening of The Great Escape, the classic war film based on true events, accompanied by the Belgian National Orchestra playing the score. During WWII, 76 prisoners managed to escape from the German POW camp Stalag Luft III. Before this impressive feat, the entire camp population worked for months on a tunnel more than 100 metres long, which was mainly propped up with bed planks from the prisoners' barracks. Elmer Bernstein’s film score was partly responsible for the runaway success of The Great Escape when it was released in 1963. Each character in the film has his or her own musical motif that is linked to the main theme of the film. The Belgian National Orchestra will play Bernstein's score under the baton of conductor Dirk Brossé, while this cinematic classic is projected on the big screen.
