‘Grand Ballet Gala’

Grand Ballet Gala is a fantasy show that, in just one night, offers a sweeping  glance at the whole range of beauty and diversity of the classical ballet. The multiplicity of its meanings is revealed through the presentation of various genres, forms and performing traditions. The ephemeral imagery of the early 19th century Romantic ballets, such as Giselle (A. Adan) and La Sylphide (J. Levenshold), the majestic plastique of the lyrical stage dramas by Marius Petipa, including his renowned masterpieces The Swan Lake (P. Tchaikovsky) and La Bayadere (L. Minkus), the audacious jumps and breathtaking supports from Le Corsaire (A. Adan) and Spartacus (A. Khachaturian), the erotic impulses from The Spirit of the Rose (von Weber) and Shakherezade (N. Rimsky-Korsakov) that were staged for Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russe – these are just some select glimpses of the impressive variety offered by the Grand Ballet Gala. The traditional forms of duet- and ensemble dancing, such as pas de deux, pas d’action, grand pas etc. will be performed by the virtuosos of the dance, the soloists of the best Russian and European companies. The gem of the show is the ballet miniature The Dying Swan (music by C. Saint-Saens), one of the most powerful symbols of the 20th century choreography. Staged by the Russian choreographer Mikhail Fokin for Anna Pavlova, the ballet was one of the hallmarks of the best 20th  century ballerinas, including Galina Ulanova, Maya Plisetskaya, Gillen Tesmar, Alla Osipenko, Galina Mezentseva.

Over the last five years, the Grand Ballet Gala met with deserved acclaim in Japan, Argentina, Canada, Europe and Russia. Merging together, the ingenious choreography of the 19th and 20th century maitres de ballet, the remarkable skills of the dancers who interpret it, the classical music by P. Tchaikovsky, A. Adan, F.
