Opening One World @ Brussels

A small village on the Bulgarian-Turkish border is a gateway for refugees, mostly from Syria. It is a topic of particular importance for its few inhabitants, who are divided by the question of the refugees. Some are afraid of them, while others see in them a hope of restoring the dying village. This split becomes the central theme of the forthcoming mayoral elections. A promising candidate is the quiet and unselfish postman Ivan, who wants to fill a deserted house with Syrian families. His opponent does not like this idea and leads a campaign to use the house for the first Iinternet club in the village. The film is a tragicomic picture of a peculiar view of the world and human goodness.

The screening will be followed by a debate with Ms Radostina Pavlova, from the Center for Legal Aid-Voice in Bulgaria and moderated by Hayet Zeghiche from EuroMed Rights Brussels.
