Händel. Messiah

Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus is a piece that has become indelibly etched into our collective memory. Those iconic notes are preceded by a good two and a half hours of incomparable music: the Messiah. A firm favourite around Christmas, this piece has gradually become one of the most frequently played works for choir. It tells the story of Jesus Christ, from the prophecies of his coming to his resurrection and role in the Last Judgement. For many years, Gli Angeli Genève led by Stephan MacLeod have been taking early music to brilliant heights. With Alex Potter, acclaimed in The Times for his “ethereal tone”, and Jeanine De Bique, who threw herself into Handel’s repertoire in her recent album Mirrors, they offer a one-in-a-thousand rendition.
