In the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, we welcome one of Europe's oldest and most renowned orchestras. Established in 1743, it has been headed by, among others, Felix Mendelssohn and premiered his celebrated Second Violin Concerto, which is on this evening's programme and is truly in the orchestra's genes! Riccardo Chailly, its artistic director since 2005 (the 19th since it was founded), is recognised as one of the greatest interpreters of Mahler. Should be a memorable evening!
