DOCOMOMO Belgium
KULeuven Faculteit Architectuur – Campus Sint-Lucas
Created in the 1970s by Lucien Kroll, the Mémé is the only example of direct user participation on such a scale. A dense structural framework and mobile partitions should also allow for a large amount of flexibility as occupants and roles change. While this dynamic and living complex could easily be considered a “monument”, it is currently turning into a slum. The strategies to protect the Mémé will be discussed on 8 September.
Contributors are Jan de Vylder (dvvt architecten), Piet Vollaard (ArchiNed), Peter Blundell-Jones, Dag Boutsen (KU Leuven) and Rob Hendriks (Academie Groningen).
