Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, his sublime and ever-popular masterpiece, is the highlight of this concert that re-unites the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra with the Brussels Choral Society under the direction of conductor David Navarro Turres. The concert will also include two rarities: Fauré’s Super flumina Babylonis, for chorus and large orchestra, written when an 18-year-old student, and Belgian composer Jean Absil’s rhythmically cheerful Petite Suite. This will be complemented by Debussy’s similarly titled composition, and two other works by Fauré: the intensely moving Elégie for cello and orchestra, and the elegant and delightful Pavane.
