‘Free Deniz’

18 May'17
- 20:00

With Doris Akrap, Sascha Lehnartz & Mete Öztürk

Since February the German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel, correspondent for the German daily DIE WELT, is held in the Turkish prison Silivri. Only his lawyers and closest relatives are entitled to visit him, and he is not allowed to get in touch with other inmates. He’s being accused of disseminating propaganda of a terrorist organization. Deniz Yücel is not the only journalist in Turkey who is kept behind bars for doing his job.

During this Free-Deniz-evening his colleagues Doris Akrap, Sascha Lehnartz and Mete Öztürk will discuss Deniz’s case, the importance of his work and the state of press freedom in Turkey. After the discussion a selection of Deniz Yücel’s texts will be read.
