‘Franco Piavoli’

In collaboration with the Cinéma du Réel Festival (Paris), BOZAR CINEMA is welcoming the Italian filmmaker Franco Piavoli.  Admired by Andreï Tarkovski and Bernardo Bertolucci, he made a name for himself thanks to Bellocchio; since the 1950s Piavoli has been building up his unique, little known oeuvre which celebrates his region of origin, Lombardy, by placing images, rites and sounds in sublime visions of the world.

Franco Piavoli’s cinema presents a way of looking at things that is almost physical. His poetics are inspired by the Russian cinema, Joris Ivens, Robert Bresson, arts and sciences. His films forsake the significant power of the word to leave room for free-flowing visual symphonies, somewhere between documentary language and experimental form. His cinema emphasises the beauty and splendour of nature, all the while observing the microcosm of his village and its surroundings.

In the presence of Franco Piavoli.
