Opening Elles Tournent - Dames Draaien Festival
After a long absence, Fernanda returns to set it all on fire: the taboos, the secrets, the oppression. Fogaréu is a touching film denouncing the hypocrisy of an elite that marginalises and exploits a fringe of the population. Brazilian director Flávia Neves paints an uncompromising portrait of contemporary society, dominated by violence, but where there is a spark of hope of revolt.
Flávia Neves made her first film, Liberdade, when she was just 16. In 2019, she directed the television series Amanajé, O Mensageiro do Futuro. Fogaréu (2022) is her first feature film.
The programme will start with the screening of Aimé (2022), a short film by Anouk Ferreira Da Silva and Gillie De Saboulin. This film tells the story of the personal encounter between Aimé, a drug dealer, and Rose, a client’s daughter. Aimé won the Elles Tournent prize at the second edition of the Graines de Cinéastes Festival.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director.
