
In the presence of the director
Xhafer, a middle-aged middle-class German pharmaceutical engineer originally from Kosovo, suddenly feels discriminated against and bullied at work, which plunges him into a spiralling identity crisis. Do his colleagues simply dislike him? Or is there more to their hostility?
Visar Morina (Pristina, Kosovo) first worked as an assistant in theatres, on films and in television. He then studied direction and screenplay writing at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne. His debut BABAI (2015) premiered at the Munich International Film Festival 2015 in the ‘New German Cinema’ section, where he received prizes for Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and the ‘One Future Award’. The film was subsequently invited to numerous international festivals such as Karlovy Vary, Angers, Busan, Haifa, São Paulo, Thessaloniki, et al., where it won several other awards. BABAI was nominated for the European Film Award 2015 in the ‘Discoveries’ section.
