Matthias Weckmann : the German Baroque Legacy Abendmusik III

After exploring Weckmann’s organ (13.04) and vocal music (14.04), this third and final concert ‘Abendmusiken’ focuses on the instrumental oeuvre of this key figure between Renaissance and Baroque. Genres such as the pavane, gaillarde and canzona are present. These were popular not just in Germany but also in England, as demonstrated by the presence of a figure such as Anthony Holborne on this programme. The warm timbres of the instruments of the Belgian InAlto ensemble, and foremost the cornetto – probably the best imitator of the human voice – are the perfect tribute to this music.
