Testimonies of the revolution

The images of the Arab Spring of January 2011 and those of the occupation of Tahrir Square in Cairo are etched in everyone’s memory. The renowned Egyptian theatre producer Hassan El Geretly and his company El Warsha want to keep the memory of the uprising alive. They continue to stand up for democracy.  Zawaya - Testimonies from the Revolution is five poignant testimonies of citizens/actors who lost a loved one in the tumult of the uprising. The author Shadi Atef penned the stories.

The Centre for Fine Arts is putting on this honest and worthy documentary theatre which is convincingly portrayed by cast-iron actors. They act out their roles in an austere decor which consists of nothing more than a few chairs. Traditional oud music and song can be heard in the background. This powerful performance is a humane reminder of an event which shook up the politics of the Arab world. El Warsha invites you to keep the Arab Spring alive, because its achievements are particularly fragile ones.
