The intimate music of the Belgian composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Dienne gives form to the images and stories that play out inside her mind. She subjects acoustic instruments – the oboe, piano or flute – to subtle electronic and digital manipulations to create miniatures full of depth and melancholy. Her moving debut album Addio appeared in 2022 on Nicolás Jaar’s Other People imprint.
The American composer and musician Tyondai Braxton has built up an incomparable oeuvre in recent decades. As a founding member and the former frontman of the experimental rock group Battles, he has focused on his own work since 2010. From solo pieces to large-scale orchestral works, he always astonishes with unexpected worlds of sound that reserve a prominent role for electronics. Building on his recent album Telekinesis (2022) for electric guitar, orchestra, choir and electronics, Braxton takes things a step further in Vali with the creation of sound collages. In this brand-new work, a captivating trip underpinned by samples and electronics, he explores stasis and movement, space and contrast. Braxton has collaborated with famous names such as the Kronos Quartet, Philip Glass, Alarm Will Sound and Mouse on Mars.
