D Tour 2023
Upon the walled corridors of the Brazilian hall of fame forever hangs the dreadlocked Djavan, next to his friends Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento.
Hailing from Maceio in the north of Brazil and with a recording career that started proper in 1976 and continues in full force (his latest album will be released in late 2022), Djavan's incredible sense of poetics and intelligence, both lyrically and musically has won him admirers like Quincy Jones, Paco De Lucia and Roberta Flack.
With a first European tour set for festivals from 12 June – 02 July 2023, his first official visit to the continent in over 4 years since before the pandemic, audiences young and old will be treated to an artist whose unique song writing genius has built him a reputation for continuously redefining Brazil's 'music of the people' also known as MPB (Música Popular Brasileira).
An artist in the truest sense and a creative powerhouse, it's to Djavan that so many musicians and artists across the globe, from the street to the stage, owe their respects - many of his song lyrics and tunes are sung like second nature by Brazilians such as 'Flor de Lis' and 'Meu bem Querer'.
His career trajectory started, like many Brazilian musical luminaries, in Rio De Janeiro. But that soon began a domino effect as fans in Brazil, United States, Africa and Europe fell to their knees in admiration. During the '80s and '90s, he went on to collaborate and perform with US soul singer Stevie Wonder and flamenco guitarist Paco De Lucia with bands and artists in Brazil and the West recognising his immense talent and the likes of Carmen McRae, Manhattan Transfer, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethania, Roberto Carlos and Gal Costa rescoring his songs.
