‘Discussion: From Nam June Paik to SLIDERS_lab’

11 Jan.'19
- 14:00

Opening event of the exhibition Mémoires vives

There is a secret affiliation between the artists who used the video medium in the 1960s, the first of which was Nam June Paik, and those who decided in the early 90s to use digital language. The exhibition Mémoires Vives develops this idea through three axes: those of the use of machines and their language, that of the memory and the archive, and that of the multiplicity of screens as the construction of a new mental universe. As part of this exhibition, BOZAR invites you to a discussion to explore these themes.

Jean-Marie Dallet, curator of the exhibition, and Don Foresta, former director of the US Cultural Embassy in Paris, will lead a debate in the presence of Jinsuk Suh, director of the Nam Jun Paik Art Centre, Halldór Runólfson (IS), former director of the National Gallery of Iceland in Reykjavik, and the participating artists: Steina and Woody Vasulka (IS), Frédéric Curien, Anne Sedes and Marc Billon from SLIDERS_lab (FR), Maria Barthélémy and René Sultra (FR), Joost Rekveld (NL) and Anne-Marie Duguet (FRA), director of the Anarchive collection.
