Go back in time to the start of the twentieth century and introduce your class to the colourful imagery of the avant-garde artist Theo van Doesburg. Your pupils get to carry out assignments as they go on a voyage of discovery through the exhibition: they will make up poems, tell a story with dots and give colour to their feelings. Choose your very own pseudonym and get to work with everyday objects in red, blue, yellow, black or white. A guide will show your pupils how to make a mobile which can then be lit up with a torch. The 3D object is suddenly given a two-dimensional shadow. The pupils put this shadow down on paper and see how the image changes depending on the perspective. It depends on which angle you look at it! Theo van Doesburg goes one step further. He transforms these 2D drawings into three-dimensional objects. There are figures hidden in the artist’s abstract paintings. Can you see them too?
