Nadine Baboy

Désintégration culturelle takes the audience on an artistic journey. Cultural heritage and, in particular, language as a key factor in the transferal of identity inspires a passionate dance statement from Nadine Baboy and her dancers. With parents born in the Congo, herself both Belgian and black, Baboy feels strongly implicated in the problems that her country of origin is being confronted with today. However, the fact that she does not speak Lingala makes her feel completely alienated from one of the two cultures interwoven into her blood. Through the forms of hip hop, house, dance, dancehall, afro, krump and flamenco we are led through heartbreaking discoveries.

Feedback from the jury: charisma; depth and vision; lots of potential; stage personality.

Nadine Baboy is a versatile artist. She is a dancer, choreographer, actress and poet. She aspires to express herself through theatre and writing. Her passion for dance and for interdisciplinarity brings her to a hybrid bodily expression in hip-hop, afro and dancehall. Selected among twenty finalists of a So You Think You Can Dance season, Nadine became known to her audience for her signature dance style. Both her silhouette and choreography were used in the video game Just Dance. The young dancer appears in the film “Stars 80”, and plays the role of Kimia Mokili in a season of the series “A tort ou à raison”.
