"Fantastic" is already the code word for this concert, in which Chief Conductor Edo de Waart reads from Berlioz's imaginary autobiography. In his Symphonie fantastique, the "musicien maudit" professes his love for an actress and undertakes an orchestral odyssey from a ballroom scene to the scaffold. The legendary US mezzo Susan Graham completes this musical banquet with her "party piece": the stunning cantata of Cleopatra's suicide.
