‘Day of the Turkish Oud : Makam workshop & Oud Masterclass’

1 May'16

On the first Day of the Turkish Oud, two of Turkey’s leading oud masters will be sharing the stage. A world first!
Yurdal Tokcan and Necati Çelik are joining forces to explore every dimension of the oud as a solo instrument. The defining features of Yurdal Tokcan’s style are highly emotional improvisations, an outstanding technical ability and sensitive performances of the Turkish classical tradition. Necati Çelik is a virtuoso whose exquisite, complex performance is deeply imbedded in the Ottoman tradition.
The Day of the Turkish Oud coincides with the opening of the Brussels Academy for Turkish Oud, founded by the Belgian oud master Tristan Driessens. Forming part of the overarching Académie de Musique Itinérante (Seyir), the new academy enjoys the support of the Turkish Yunus Emre Institute. It is organising master classes, workshops and oud courses to teach people how to play the instrument in line with the Turkish classical music tradition.
