‘Coşkun Karademir Quartet’

Coşkun Karademir’s quartet, which hails from Anatolia, creates an east-west fusion of music. The sound of the duduk, the cello, the drums and the baglama combine to create a stunning example of musical spirituality, earning praise from music critics.

Coşkun Karademir is one of the most famous interpreters of the music of Anatolia, a region rich in Greek, Turkish-Ottoman and Armenian influences. This virtuoso player of the baglama (a folk lute that is very similar to the bouzouki) has devoted himself to traditional and mystical music. The Songlines magazine called his album “Kuşların Çağrısı” (The Call of Birds), which he recorded with his band The Secret Ensemble and the Iranian singer Masha Vahdat, a “Top of the World album”. His second release, “Endless Path”, is a real gem of musical spirituality, which was praised by international critics. For his latest album, which he is presenting at BOZAR, he has chosen to perform with a quartet. The sound of the duduk (an Armenian wind instrument, which is listed as UNESCO intangible heritage, together with its music), the cello, the drums and the baglama blend together in a fascinating and timeless form of music, which transcends borders, religions and cultures.
