‘COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW : WE ARE FAMILY’

16 Dec.'20
- 19:00

What does the family signify for the LGBTQIA+ communities in Brussels in 2020?

In order to gain a better understanding of non-traditional or rainbow family life in Brussels in 2020, BOZAR, VICE and equal.brussels invited a number of members of the LGBTQIA+ communities to visually share their experiences in the documentary "Colours of the Rainbow : We are Family". With : Jessica Gysel, Fabien Gaudry, Jaouad Alloul, Rachael Moore, Joelle / Eclipse, Jhaya La Vogue, Nick Arnaud Giriyuja.

Your identity is initially formed within your family and immediate surroundings. But what if your family is a little different to what is considered a ‘traditional’ family? To get an insight into this, the authors of the documentary asked a few people from the Brussels LGBTQIA+ communities to talk about their experiences. The film also tells the stories of other Brussels residents through audio clips, with the aim of exposing both the differences and the common ground between mainstream and a rainbow family life.

The avant-premiere is scheduled for Wednesday 16/12 at 19:00 on VICE Belgium's YouTube channel. The film is to be launched with a live (double) interview with the Secretary of State of the Brussels-Capital Region, responsible for Housing and Equal Opportunities, Nawal Ben Hamou, and BOZAR’s Inclusion Advisor, Yamina El Atlassi, by Souria Cheurfi (Lead Editor for VICE Belgium), and a panel discussion with some of the talent featured in the film, with an audience Q&A session.
