‘Close-up: Joanna Hogg’

"In a way, all my films are ghost stories"

Bozar and Cinematek are delighted to initiate an extensive programme around and with Joanna Hogg. The British filmmaker gained fame for her sharply observed studies of upper-middle-class relationships and witty reflections on artistic life. She will be in Brussels from 22 to 24 September to present, among other events, her latest film The Eternal Daughter in avant-première followed by a conversation.

After her film studies in London, where she graduated in 1986 with the short film Caprice (starring a young Tilda Swinton), she worked for television for almost 20 years in which she directed episodes for a wide variety of series. In the early 2000s, she decided to return to cinema, leading to her feature debut Unrelated that was released in 2007. A film in which her singular style had already very clearly found its form. Since then, she has made five more feature films that have made her a unique and distinctive voice in British cinema over the past two decades.
