The COP28, the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, is being held in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December. If we are to achieve the goals set by the Paris Agreement, we need to move away from fossil fuels towards renewable, low-carbon and preferably sustainable energies. A fundamental energy transition is therefore necessary. Yet this year's climate conference is being organised by an oil-rich monarchy. Can the United Nations' goal of accelerating the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions be compatible with the intentions of the host country? And in Belgium, where do we stand in the energy transition?
With Jean-Pascal van Ypersele (Professor (em.) of climatology at UCLouvain and former IPCC Vice-Chair), Tinne Van der Straeten (Federal Minister for Energy), Anuna De Wever (Climate & human rights activist) and Hilda Flavia Nakabuye (climate activist, founder of Fridays For Future Uganda), we will take stock of the commitments made at COP28, while looking in greater depth at the relationship with energy and the need to move away from fossil fuels to preserve our living conditions on the planet. This meeting will be moderated by Paul Germain (journalist and editor-in-chief, TV5 Monde).
