What has the COVID-19 pandemic revealed?
Like many big cities, Brussels is facing numerous social, political, economic, and environmental challenges. For this new edition of City Talk, Bozar welcomes Myriam De Spiegelaere, doctor and lecturer at the Ecole de santé publique of ULB. She will explain how the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the mechanisms that create, develop and perpetuate social inequalities in healthcare. The inequality increases in areas where more than 40% of children live in poverty. Therefore, we must better understand these mechanisms and develop public policies to combat these inequalities. :
With: Myriam De Spiegelaere, Pablo Nicaise (specialist in mental health at UCL) and Dennis Mannaerts (director at Cultures & Santé)
Myriam De Spiegelaere has dedicated her career to fighting health-related socioeconomic injustice. She does this through her roles as director of the Brussels Observatory for Health and Welfare, lecturer and researcher.
