Chris Potter, Craig Taborn, Scott Colley, Eric Harland
American saxophonist Chris Potter presents a grand European premiere (!) of Generations, his new piece for jazz quartet and chamber orchestra, commissioned by SFJazz. He himself describes his composition as a meditation on the bonds that unite humans throughout different eras. Chris Potter seeks above all to create a free-flowing encounter between the two musical ensembles, while leaving ample room for improvisation. The saxophone plays a unifying role here by linking the different movements, of various styles and inspired by the third chapter of Ecclesiastes: “There is a time to be born, a time to build, a time to cry... and a time for peace.” For this concert, Bozar brings together Chris Potter and an adventurous Belgian ensemble, the Casco Phil, under the direction of its artistic director Benjamin Haemhouts.
