Leonardo García Alarcón and his musicians take you to the court of the Sun King in a programme with a focus on ceremonial and contemplation. The Dies Irae and the De profundis were both provided by Jean-Baptiste Lully in 1683 for the funeral service of Queen Maria Theresa of Austria, wife of Louis XIV. Those grand motets, solemn and expressive, are followed by the Missa pro defunctis written by Lully's predecessor Charles d'Helfer.
