Brussels had a thriving cultural court life under Austrian rule. Regent Charles V, Duke of Lorraine, would not even have been a particularly great music connoisseur, but to enhance the prestige of his court, he employed a large number of musicians. Bozar asked Catalina Vicens, one of the greatest specialists of ancient pianos, to put together a programme in the chapel around the monarchs who resided in Brussels. Music by William Byrd, Louis Couperin, and noble unknowns like Juan Bautista Cabanilles or Nicolas Vallet alternate in a royal scene.
