Compassion: Matthäus-Passion Revisited

According to Ivan Fischer, compassion is key to the story of the Passion: by witnessing Christ's suffering, as a listener you experience a sense of compassion. The conductor wants to give a universal meaning to suffering, as injustice unfortunately still affects many people, and therefore pairs the St Matthew Passion with music of endangered peoples and minorities. Selections from Bach's masterpiece alternate with a very diverse repertoire: from Tigran Mansurian Requiem and Ravel's Kaddish to improvisations on oud, sitar and frame drum. Prepare for a unique vision of the St Matthew Passion that will not leave you unmoved.

A talk with Iván Fischer will take place between 18.45 and 19.10pm in the Henry Le Boeuf Hall. This encounter will be in English and is moderated by Jan van den Bossche. Free admission.
