In this concert you will hear an exciting mix of works of youth and maturity by Händel, Haydn and Schubert. In addition to the energetic Dixit Dominus, a setting of Psalm 110 by the 22-year-old Händel, you will hear Haydn’s Symphony no 94, the Surprise, a late work full of humour, vitality and musical inventiveness that he wrote at the age of 60. Schubert’s mature Mass in A flat completes the evening’s concert. This piece, composed when Schubert was 25, is infused with spirituality, power and lyricism. Together, these three works illustrate the development of musical styles over the 18th and early 19th centuries. The Brussels Choral Society once again joins the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, performing under conductor David Navarro-Turres.

Over the past 35 years, the Brussels Choral Society has become a prominent part of the Brussels concert season. With 100 members and representing more than 20 nationalities, the Brussels Choral Society and its Musical Director, Eric Delson, have performed a wide variety of works and are constantly seeking new challenges.
