Singing Brussels Celebration

Brussels Brecht-Eislerkoor

Lieve Franssen, conductor

The Brussels Brecht-Eisler Choir sing in the tradition of Bertolt Brecht and Hanns Eisler, with music that tells stories about society and all the things that go wrong in it, as well as about resistance. They regularly commission works from composers about important societal themes. The choir travelled to Palestine, as so-called “Checkpoint singers” to demonstrate their solidarity through song. They also wrote a book about worker’s songs in Belgium titled Strijdlawijt. This time, the choir will perform a programme about the turbulent 16th century. They will sing protest songs of the Gueux (Geuzenliederen), a revolutionary Dutch party on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of Peter Brueghel’s death.

Belgium Sunshine Choir

Sihong Liang, conductor

Music brings people together and warms the heart. This is what has motivated the members of the Sunshine Choir to sing and laugh together, even though some of them are now living 10,000 kilometres from their native country. Come along and sample their joy and fervour!
