From Paris to New York
After the premiere of Brad Mehldau’s Piano Concerto at the Barbican Centre in London, the audience treated him to an incredible standing ovation. In this fantastic piece of work, he manages to incorporate some exquisite improvisations into the architecture of a classical concerto. Before this builder of bridges between the worlds of classical music and jazz performs his concerto for the first time in Belgium, the Belgian National Orchestra will warm up the audience with some orchestral arrangements of Debussy's poetic Préludes for piano. Belgian composer Luc Brewaeys created an orchestral version of the Préludes that remains particularly faithful to Debussy's original; he doesn't add a single note, follows Debussy's orchestral palette, and plays with colours to the extreme.
