Camille Thomas & Britten / Stravinsky
Talented Franco-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas is well on her way to global recognition, armed with unstoppable optimism and faith in the emotional power of music. Today, she will be showing her talents in Britten's Cello Symphony, which was so named because the composer’s aim was to create a sophisticated, balanced dialogue between orchestra and cello. The 4-part ballet Petrushka was the second collaboration between composer Stravinsky and dance impresario Diaghilev, following the great success of L'Oiseau de feu. Three dolls that mysteriously come to life (Petrushka herself, the Ballerina and the Moor) become entangled in a passionate love struggle in this ballet. Ultimately, Petrushka loses out.
