A Hero's Life

The Belgian National Orchestra opens its season with the Belgian premiere of Eco ... del vuoto, a work by Annelies Van Parys in tribute to her late teacher Luc Brewaeys. The great pianist Boris Giltburg, First Prize winner of the 2013 Queen Elisabeth Competition, then embarks on Prokofiev's best-known piano concerto, a particularly virtuosic piece full of vitality.

"Why should I be less interesting than Nero or Napoleon?" The main theme of Richard Strauss's symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben is none other than the composer himself, evoking his concubine, their romance, his detractors and his humoresque battle with them. After a resounding victory, Strauss quotes more of his symphonic poems. The hero then leaves the world and renounces all celebrity.
