Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández returns to Bozar! With the Belgian National Orchestra conducted by Matthew Halls, he performs Schumann's Cello Concerto. This highly romantic composition avoids excessive virtuosity and focuses on warm lyricism.
"I want to grab fate by the collar. It won't let me down!" Despite the doubts born of his incipient deafness, Beethoven felt his physical and spiritual strength increase in 1801. The Second Symphony, written at this time, is a surprisingly positive work. The bold, inspired and adventurous character of this four-movement composition already heralded Beethoven's heroic style, which was to be fully expressed shortly afterwards in the famous Eroica Symphony.
